Payment Widget…
Are you looking for a way to monetize content? Now there’s widgets available to do just that. Two worth mentioning are tipjoy (which I’ve added to this blog, see below) and tipit. Why do I consider these interesting?
First, I like the Voluntary nature of these widgets. It provides a way for those who appreciate the content to send a monetary message of appreciation to the provider or publisher. Would I like this as much if I were required to pay $.10 to view the content—NO. I simply wouldn’t. I hope that the VOLUNTARY nature of the widget will also contribute to it’s success.
Second, it’s simple. It’s simple to integrate. It’s simple to send a tip.
Third, I get to choose the tip amount. Wow, a real way to give someone a $.10 tip. This couldn’t be done with credit cards or debit cards—they cost too much. It can’t even be done with ACH—it also costs too much.
I’m going to be following these companies to see how they do. Do these companies have a future?
